474
before the Council on May .31, .1955, referred to the Ci ty . Attorney who - ruled the approvel
of moving these signs..
Councilman Granger reported that he still was not satisfied with the signs on Bayshore
Highway, and, in his opinion, there are more signs than homes on this highway. He
further stated that if steel poles were used .in place of.wooden.ones then in his
opinion they have no .idea of. taking __ down.. the. _. signs... Building .Insp.ector Kreiss stated
that these are the same signs_. except that there are steel .pol.es...connecting the signs
instead of the wooden poles. , Councilman _Granger_s.till..ob.jected..to having so many signs
and they could.be erected .domeplace..besides.Re.dwoo.d City. He then asked that the Sign
Committee look. into . the .matter .of .the sign._.ordinance. which. San. Mateo has adopted.
Councilman..Stout. is of the opinion .that. Councilman, Granger granted some action. He,
Councilman Stout,.. recomniende.d. that. this be turned over to the Tanning Commission for
their recommendation, Mayor Herkner..s t.at.ed. that :.the.. point.. he. making was that this
should be turned over to the Sign Committee.. and. the in ques.tion,.should be checked
and if found to be Larger_ than . the. original sign. then.this. sign must. be made smaller.
He further stated that: this.slgn.should.be.checked_.nd measured. Councilman Granger
stated that the Planning Commission should be made aware of the condition of these
signs.
YACHT HARBOR COMMITTEE REPORT. Councilman Britschgi reported that some drawings had been
turned in by Counc.ilman...Stout.. .A meeting was.cal.led,.to discuss these drawings and
there had been some disagreement.but no, action had been taken. The first thought of
the Committee was.to. start the..pr.ogram.' In.March.or April a meeting was held and at.
that time they agreed.that:_Mr. Jain. woul.d_ drawing of the cross section of the
Yacht.Harbor following .the.dia.tates of.Councilman_S.tout's plans._ .The entire area has
to be staked and surveyed. The Engineers.felt that the. Parking Lot.was of major imp,
ortance and had to give it priority over the Yacht Harbor plans, however, since the
parking lot is now. well _ underway .they . c.an _devote some time . to .making. the plans which,
when finished,. will_be brought to the attention ..of the Fort .Commission and the Yacht
Harbor Committee.
Councilman Britschgi further reported that recently he had called a meeting with Col.
Allen, members of the Port Commission, the Port Manager, members of the Park and
Recreation Commission and other interested departments and representatives. The most
important item. at. this meeting was the settlement of the realignment of the railroad
tract .and.it could be made .on.a:_curve in a. manner which would not spoil in any way the
Port property.
The first thing that the Committee would like to recommend is that the Engineering
Department..be allowed. to prepare the plans . and specs for the building of the levee
and new road which -will be called "East dike and roadway in front.of the Stanford
boat house". They will .have __to. may.e the old. road .and .build it up and place it in a
proper _position before going ahead .with the _dredging.. There _i.s.. some foreign material
which will. have. to be. removed before the dredging can .be done.. He. stated that the
Engineering...D.epartment .will_ have to find_ some method. of removing this foreign mater-
ial from the area.
The Port Commission will.meet and.make__c.ertain recommendations to the railroad as to
the piling and to see what their suggestions would be to installing brick-a - brack
wall. The second item is the help that the Port will be able to lend to the City in
