Councilman Royer asked about the , recommendation of comparable positions and salaries paid in nei�hboring cities as presented b,y the City Manager. The City Rfanager explained his report. Councilman Britschgi again stated that he wanted it ""'� understood that he was not in favor of hiring someone at the proposed salary ti�rho �vould not be given ,�r ', necessa.ry responsibilities to properly r.arry on the job. Councilman Granger s�ated that he had heard rumors that he was trying to get rid of the present City rlianager. He vranted it understood that this was not so� he was merely looking f orvrard to the betterment of the City. In most cases all the present � department heads have assistants to help with the responsibility and to take over the depart�nent in the , � absence of the department head. This is not so in the case of the City ?��lanager and he thou�ht it only fitting that something should be done. This was f ollav�ed �y discussion after which the mo+ion carried. Councilman Royer moved that the City I�Zanager be authorized to �o ahead and fill the position, seconded by Councilman Stout. This was follovued by discussion regarding proper action taken in abolishing the position of Admi.nistrative Assistant. City Engineer Jain stated that the Coun�il is ' goin� to have to make up their minds to remove all the trees and take out all the sidewalks and put in new sidewalks and curbs. This was f ollawed by discussion. Councilman Britschgi moved that the matter of Jefferson Avenue be placed on the agenda f or sometime in the early spring� seconded by Councilman Jones and carried. , City lt�ianager Rolison stated that signal at Jefferson and Hudson was under consideration. Gas Tax funds could be used for the purpose. Spinas� wrote the follawing letter to the Council: , "In order to make the most �ade uate sewer connections f or the � q proposed school at , , Hawes Park, it v�ill be necessary to obtain from the city an easement so the line � can be connected to the city sewer on Hudson Street without having to cross the City !, of San Francisco Hetch—Hetchy water line. i i Our architects, �r. �r�illiam Daseking, has already contacted the City En�ineer to explain in detail what we have in mind. The purpose of this letter is to serve as an official request that the easement be granted to the Rect�*ood City School District." City Engineer Jain stated that the school plan will not work.
