The City's Vision
Redwood City has recently adopted two key documents that will guide economic
development efforts in both the short and the long term. The adoption of the
Downtown Precise Plan and Economic Development Chapter of the Built Environmental
Element of the New General Plan provide clear objectives for the attraction of
businesses to the City's downtown core and the City in general.
The City's Strategic Plan lays the groundwork for the City's vision. The strategic initiative
for Economic Development states that this initiative will guide the City by:
Supporting and sustaining a business environment that contributes to economic prosperity,
and improves the economic well-being and quality of life for our community.
Strategic Goals:
• euild relationships and leverage community partnerships
• Foster meaningful community engagement and participation
• Preserve and promote our cultural, educational, economic and recreational
diversity and historic heritage
• Raise public awareness through increased communications and engagement
• Engage our neighborhoods as partners with the common goal of improving the
community's health,safety and well-being
The City's Economic Development Chapter of the Built Environmental Element of the
New General Plan (attached for reference) builds on this framework and lays out the
vision for Redwood City's future:
Imagine Redwood City in 2030
Redwood City's economy is diverse and healthy, blending traditional industries with
today's high technology and emerging businesses in a entrepreneurial setting that supports
culturally diverse employees and residents. Redwood City's economic vitality is based on:
• Housing opportunities for a diverse population of all ages and incomes
• A regionally integrated transportation network
• Equal access to quality education, child care, and health care systems
• A workforce with appropriate education and skills to meet the challenging needs
of businesses
• A land use plan that ensures opportunities for economic growth while sustaining a
quality of life for all
• An awareness that the City's geographic location on the San Francisco Peninsula
provides a competitive advantage in attracting businesses
7
