St�ategic Initiative: <br /> Youth <br /> Engage youth respectfully, as an integral part of the Redwood City <br /> community. <br /> Strate�ic Goals <br /> • Employ 14 youth through the Verde Youth Ambassador Program in <br /> summers of 2010 and 2011 . Develop a business plan for sustaining <br /> the program beyond initial funding by December 2011 . <br /> Dcvclop and maintain <br /> Fourteen Redwood City youth (two college "leads"and 12 high school programs that support <br /> students) were employed as Verde Youth Ambassadors during the `�outh dcvclopmcnt, <br /> summer of 2010. The youth were divided into two teams— cducation, hcalth, and <br /> school/community gardens and marketing. The garden team cnrichmcnt <br /> refurbished, maintained and built school gardens on four school <br /> campuses. The marketing team conducted outreach for the City's Verde <br /> programs at summer events downtown. A Stanford Policy, Organization <br /> and Leadership Studies masters level student interns with the City one <br /> day a week for the academic year. This student is developing a case <br /> study of the Verde Youth Ambassador program as a first step in Crcatc and nurturc <br /> developing a business plan for the program. Objective is on track for partncrships and <br /> COI77�Jlet1017, collaboration that <br /> providc <br /> • Enroll 20 youth through the Verde Youth Ambassador Volunteer for critical`�outh <br /> Corps Program during 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 fiscal years. scrviccs <br /> Document and report back on their implementation of an and child carc <br /> environmental volunteer project, by September 30th of each year. <br /> The Verde Youth Ambassador Volunteer Corps was launched in <br /> September 2010 with thirteen high school students enrolled. These <br /> youth come from throughout the City and attend Carlmont High School, <br /> Sequoia High School, and Summit Charter School. The youth met Engagc`�outh <br /> weekly to plan monthly environmental community service projects. respcctfull`�, <br /> as an intcgral part <br /> Lookinq to the Future of thc Rcdwood City <br /> community <br /> The four departments that comprise the City's Youth Agenda - Parks, <br /> Library, Police, and the Manager's Office - are committed to <br /> providing for youth as a core service, and allocate significant ' - " - ` <br /> �. � - i <br /> resources to numerous on-going services for youth and families � � <br /> (as noted in the departmental annual reports).
