1
EXHffiIT B-1
Proposal for Construction Staking Services
Route lOl/Ralston Interchange
City of Redwood City
Scove of Services:
Construction staking services will be performed in accordance with the work as outlined in the Caltrans
"Staking Information" Pamphlet dated May 1, 1999, and will consist of construction survey services,
including field surveys and the necessary office support to coordinate staking requirements with the
Resident Engineer. MT &Co also will attend construction meetings as required, layout and set up
fieldwork, check notes and complete grade sheets.
Separate traffic control for survey work, except standard shoulder closures, is not anticipated and is not
included in the scope and budget. It is expected that all survey staking will be performed in
construction areas only after the Contractor has established a safe work zone for his own work in those
areas. Standard shoulder closures for survey work are included in this scope.
MTCo can provide up to three survey crews at one time for this project (although we believe that most
of the work will require one to two field crews to complete timely). We request a minimum of two
working days notice prior to construction staking, although we typically will be able to respond within
one day or less with advance scheduling coordinated through the Resident Engineer. The Contractor
will be responsible for providing cleared area for staking purposes, so that surveyors can operate safely
and construction stakes can be preserved.
Mark Thomas & Co. Inc. will provide one set of stakes for the following areas. Additional staking (i.e.
staking beyond that described herein, or restaking due to lost or destroyed stakes) will be perfonned as
approved by the Resident Engineer, and compensation as extra work by the Contractor:
a) Establish temporary horizontal and vertical control points for construction purposes. Calculate
construction staking layouts and prepare construction EDM notes in accordance with Caltrans'
staking guidelines. Update Construction Survey Plan to include these temporary points set as
"MK" points.
b) Flag Right of Way for clearing and grubbing at 30m intervals with lath and flagging and field
mark conform locations.
c) Rough grade and slope stake will be staked at 20 m intervals on centerline, at all BC's, EC's,
and grade breaks, at top of slope and at toe of slope.
d) Intermediate slope staking shall be provided with spacing of 20 m to control cut slope or fill
slope in excess of lO m.
e) Contour grading shall be staked at all grade breaks, with maximum spacing of 20 m intervals.
f) Drainage culverts and underdrains will be staked at 12 m intervals showing cut to invert.
Propo,çal for Construction Staking Services 1
For Route WlIRalston Interchange Project
- -r .
