SS 1045 will now go to the Governor for
his signature. The Governor's press office has
signaled that he will sign it, reinforcing his written
message (provided when he signed the main
budget bill), when he indicated that the redevelop-
ment cut was $135 million. An updated schedule
of the estimated individual impacts of these RDA
cuts can be found on the League's website at
www.cacities.oro /budget.
....................
COMMUNITY ACCESS CHANNELS:
CHANGES AHEAD?
The PBS television program "NOW with Bill
Moyers" will air a story on the possible future of
community access channels, Friday night, Aug.
22nd. City officials may be interested, as many of
these channels air educational programs.
Western City Magazine's job opportu-
nity section is the source for job seekers
looking for positions in local government.
According to our reader survey, the job
opportunity section is the best read section
of our magazine!
When you place an ad in Western City
Magazine, it will be posted at no additional
charge on our website, which receives
over 60,000 hits per month.
Call to place your recruitment ad today!
800 262 -1801 or visit our website
www.westerncity.com.
Throughout the United States many cable
television companies provide local education and
public access channels to their communities. But
with more and more local cable systems now part of
big media conglomerates, many say cable compa-
nies are no longer interested in addressing the
needs of local communities. Could this signal the
end of a service some believe provides vital informa-
tion people need to function as a community?
The segment spotlights the city of San Jose's
continuing struggle to secure a franchise agree-
ment with media giant Comcast that provides
funding to ensure quality local programming.
For airing times, check local listings at
www.obs.oralnow.
Visit the League's Official Web Site-- www.cacities.org PRIORITY FOCUS /PAGE 3
