10.4 <br /> <br />Life Insurance <br /> <br />The City shall continue to offer to eligible employees the life insurance program <br />in effect on February 1, 1974. <br /> <br />SECTION 11. PROBATION <br /> <br />11.1 New Employees <br /> <br />An employee shall serve a probationary period of eighteen (18) months. Upon <br />satisfactory completion of such probationary period, the employee shall be <br />appointed as a regular full-time employee of the City of Redwood City. <br /> <br />During the first six (6) months of his or her probationary period, an employee may <br />be required to pass physical agility and endurance tests, written examinations, and <br />other job related subjects. During the last twelve (12) months of the probationary <br />period, an employee may be required to pass periodical written examinations <br />pertaining to all phases of the employee's work. At the conclusion of the <br />probationary period, an employee may be required to pass a written examination <br />and performance test. <br /> <br />A probationary employee shall have the opportunity to read and discuss his or her <br />monthly performance report with his or her supervisor before such report becomes <br />part of the employee's employment record. <br /> <br />An employee may be separated from the City service at any time during the <br />probationary period without right of appeal or hearing. <br /> <br />Any employee appointed to the classification of Police Officer Trainee shall be <br />considered in a training status during the probationary period. A Police Officer <br />Trainee who has not completed the required basic P.O.S.T training academy shall <br />be considered a local miscellaneous retirement employee for all purposes and will <br />only be considered a safety retirement member on the first (lst) day he or she is <br />assigned to regular police duties. <br /> <br />11.2 Promoted Employees <br /> <br />All promotional appointments shall be tentative and subject to a probationary <br />period of twelve (12) months of service from the date of appointment. During the <br />probationary period an employee may be rejected at any time by the City Manager <br />upon reconunendation of the Police Chief. Any regular employee rejected during <br />the probationary period following a promotional appointment shall be reinstated <br /> <br />25 <br /> <br /> <br />
