The proposed culvert will replace an existing culvert <br />which must be relocated for the underground garage that will serve a new retail/cinema project. <br />The new culvert will be relocated to the Main Street parking lot, pass through the alley between <br />City Hall and the US Post Office, across Jefferson Avenue, through the comer of the proposed <br />underground garage and process across Middlefield Road. The culvert will connect to the <br />existing culvert at Middlefield Road and at Redwood Crossing/Wharf Street. It is planned as box <br />culvert approximately 10 feet deep and 15 feet wide. Construction excavations may be up to 12 <br />feet deep and 20 feet wide mad utilize approved shoring and shields. Spoil will removed by <br />trackhoe and trucked to a disposal site. Construction will occur in 5 phases with completion in <br />September, 2003. Demolition of two buildings is required for the culvert construction. <br /> <br />The Final Environmental Impact Report for the Proposed Downtown Cinema/Retail Project <br />noted several impacts to historic properties including archaeological resources and mandated <br />mitigation measures. Mitigation measures F3a and F3b are appropriate to the culvert project: <br /> <br /> Mitigation F3a: Prior to the start of excavation, the project sponsor shall retain the services <br /> of a professional archaeologist, familiar with both prehistoric and historic archaeology, to <br /> review the site history and to. monitor excavation activities at the site that may expose <br /> archaeological materials. <br /> <br /> Mitigation F3b: Follow the provisions of the Cid' of Redwood City's Cultural Resources <br /> Management Plan pertaining to archaeology and cultural resources. <br /> <br /> BASIN RESEARCH ASSOCIATES <br /> <br /> <br />
