5.3A-1

REPORT

To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager

January 10, 2005

Subject
Authorization to submit an application for the Fair Oaks Community Center Information and
Referral Program to the San Mateo County Office of Housing for CDBG Funding for FY 05-
06 and to designate Teri Chin, Human Services Manager, as the contact person.

Recommendation
Approve resolution to authorize submission of application and to designate Teri Chin as
the contact person.

Background
Since it's inception, the Fair Oaks Community Center Information and Referral program
has been funded, in part, through a contract with the San Mateo County Human Services
Agency Office of Housing. Due to a reduction in funding available for the Information and
Referral Program contract over the last few years, the Human Services Agency has
encouraged the City of Redwood City to apply for funding through the San Mateo County
Office of Housing for CDBG funds for services provided to unincorporated North Fair Oaks
residents through the Fair Oaks Community Center Information and Referral Program. The
City applied to and received $15,000 in San Mateo County CDBG funds for FY 04-05.

For FY 05-06, the City will again submit an application for San Mateo County CDBG Funds
for the Fair Oaks Community Center Information and Referral Program. One of the
requirements for submission by the January 18th, 2005 deadline is a resolution from the
City Council authorizing submission of the application and designating a contact person.

Alternative
Without a resolution, the City's cannot apply for San Mateo County CDBG Funds for the
Fair Oaks Community Center Information and Referral Program.

Fiscal Impact
The City is requesting $15,000 from the San Mateo County CDBG funds for FY 05-06 as a
part of its effort to maintain current levels of funding from the County of San Mateo for the
Fair Oaks Community Center Information and Referral Program. Without this grant, the
City would have an additional deficit of $15,000 for FY 05-06.

,~L

'-teri Chin -
Human Services Manager
