6.1.C. - Page 9 <br />Policy BE- 26.10: Prioritize bicycle, electric bicycle /scooter, and pedestrian safety <br />improvements at street crossings. <br />Policy BE- 26.11: Prioritize implementation of pedestrian, bicycle, and electric <br />bicycle /scooter improvements near schools, transit, shopping, <br />hospitals, and mixed -use areas with higher pedestrian <br />concentrations. <br />Policy BE- 26.12: Encourage more students to walk and bicycle to and from <br />Sustainability Focus schools. <br />Policy BE- 26.13: Explore the implementation of uniform way - finding signs to <br />guide bicycles, electric bicycles /scooters, and pedestrians to <br />recommended travel routes and destinations throughout the <br />community. Ensure consistency with countywide /regional <br />signage wherever feasible. <br />Policy BE- 26.14: Support completion of the pedestrian network by providing <br />Sustainability Focus sidewalks or paths on at least one side of the street (preferably <br />both sides where feasible) where they are missing and feasible. <br />Crosswalks and sidewalks shall be universally accessible and <br />designed for people of all abilities, wherever feasible. <br />Policy BE- 26.15: Improve the pedestrian experience through the use of <br />landscaping, medians, crosswalks, mid -block crossings, <br />pedestrian -scale lighting, pedestrian traffic signals, appropriate <br />street furniture, orienting new development toward the street, <br />and increased education and enforcement. <br />Policy BE- 26.16: Encourage pedestrian activity by installing, maintaining, and <br />where appropriate, enhancing existing crosswalks at both mid - <br />block locations and all approaches of major intersections where <br />feasible and where enhanced traffic control devices or roadway <br />amenities would improve pedestrian access and safety. <br />w Policy BE- 26.17: Encourage pedestrian activity by accommodating pedestrian <br />Sustainability Focus crossings on all intersection approaches and /or mid - block with <br />maximum spacing of 500 feet, where feasible, including <br />enhanced traffic control devices or roadway amenities where <br />appropriate to improve pedestrian access and safety, on all <br />street types other than Auto Dominated Highways. Where <br />necessary, traffic flow should be preserved with roundabouts or <br />signal coordination rather than increased intersection spacing. <br />
