6.1.A. - Page 10 <br />Gayle Suedanovic spoke in support of the previous speaker's comments and asked <br />about the City's objectives. She is concerned about a lack of short and long -term fiscal <br />impact analysis and how it will impact all stakeholders in the City, County, and state. <br />She questioned whether the benefits outweigh the impacts, who will maintain various <br />infrastructures, such as schools and transportation, once the developers leave and also <br />in light of any earthquakes and flooding. <br />Arnoldo Arreola, on behalf of Sustainable Redwood City, commented on recent polls <br />and noted one poll which said 83 percent are in favor of being able to vote on this <br />project, but that this cannot take place until this process is complete, and that is exactly <br />what the Council is doing. He believes good decisions are made through thoughtful <br />review. He said that returning the land to wetlands is a good goal but questioned who <br />can afford it. <br />Maribel Arreola, a resident for over 37 years, spoke in favor of continuing the process <br />for the project. She spoke on the need for affordable housing, parks and recreation, <br />and jobs. <br />Patricia Lindo expressed her thanks for this process noting that this is taking a long time <br />because it is being done right, safely and successfully. She spoke in favor of continuing <br />review of all the details and opined that there are a lot of benefits associated with it for <br />schools, housing, and restoration. <br />Andrew Lomano spoke in favor of continuing the EIR process. He commented that he <br />lives in San Mateo, along the Marina Lagoon, and that this is a vibrant community with a <br />lot of wildlife and it is filled with people who are drawn to it. He opined that this project <br />will bring economic benefits and can coexist with environmental objectives. <br />Keith Bautista, a resident for over 45 years, commended Council for its courage to allow <br />this applicant to move through normal review process the same as any other applicant. <br />He commented on a previous successful project Pacific Shores Center. He spoke in <br />favor of allowing citizens to exercise their rights to be informed and for the process to <br />continue. <br />Corrin Trowbridge, a 15 -year resident, and a member of the Redwood City San Mateo <br />County Chamber of Commerce, spoke in favor of process and the use of the EIR to <br />flush out and address any issues and problems. He noted that information from recent <br />polls can be skewed. <br />Gita Dev, a resident of Woodside, commented that a lot of other communities are <br />interested in this project because we share the hills and the bay. She expressed <br />concern about the EIR process, including community dialogue; the scoping report; an <br />open process for the alternatives, long -term fiscal analysis, and how it must this must be <br />good for Redwood City. <br />Foster Kinney, a resident, expressed concern about the bay and the City and he spoke <br />in favor of the EIR process and he believes citizen input is sincerely requested and their <br />JOINT CITY COUNCIL /REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOARD May 23, 2011 <br />MEETING MINUTES PAGE 10 <br />
