6.1.B. - Page 34 <br />TENTATIVE AGREEMENT BETWEEN CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />SERVICE EMPLOYEES INTERNATIONAL UNION (SEIU) LOCAL 521 <br />qualified personnel and an appointee's experience, education, knowledge of <br />particular duties required, personal fitness for the position, and such other criteria <br />as may be reasonably related to such preferential consideration on the basis of <br />merit. <br />15.1.3 A worker may be eligible for a salary adjustment to the next highest step above <br />the initial step or rate to which appointment was made upon the satisfactory <br />completion of six (6) consecutive months' employment. An adjustment shall be <br />made only upon the recommendation of the Department Head and upon <br />approval of the City Manager. <br />15.1.4 Progression of workers from the second step to the third step of the salary plan <br />may be made upon completion of a minimum period of one (1) year at the <br />second step and upon consideration of such worker's performance of duties, <br />experience, education, personal fitness for the position, and other criteria <br />reasonably related to awarding increased compensation on the basis of merit. <br />An adjustment shall be made only upon the recommendation of the Department <br />Head and upon approval of the City Manager. Denial of a salary adjustment <br />shall be made in writing. <br />15.1.5 Progression of workers from the third step to the fourth step and the fourth step <br />to the fifth step of the salary plan will be based upon the completion of the period <br />of one (1) year's service at the respective lower step. <br />15.2 Pay Period <br />Workers shall be paid bi- weekly on Fridays. <br />The City will continue a mandatory direct deposit program for all SEIU unit <br />exception of new hires who do not have a checking account. <br />15.12 Certification Incentives for Building Maintenance Classes <br />with the <br />This program is intended to provide an incentive for City employees in the classification <br />of Building Maintenance Worker and Senior Building Maintenance Worker to obtain and <br />maintain the following qualifying certifications. <br />Program Guidelines: <br />Qualifying Certifications <br />1) Universal Certificate in HVACtR and RSI course or Sequoia Institute Course. <br />2) BOMI — SMT Designation <br />3) Certification in Pool and Spa Operations <br />Page 8 of 30 <br />Ila 41 [1 <br />
