Silicon Valley Leadership Group: Approvable
On behalf of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, we are writing to
express our support of the development proposal at 333 Main Street by
Matteson Properties_
By way of background, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group (SVLG),
founded in 1978 by David Packard of Hevldett Packard, represents
more than 200 of Silicon Valley's most respected employers. SVLG
members collectively provide nearly 250,000 local jobs, or one of eveI')'
four in the private sector in Silicon Valley.
From SVLG's perspective, our ability to recruit and retain a qualified
workforce is dependent on housing availability and affordability.
Sadly, Silicon Valley remains one of the most unaffordable areas in the
nation with only 18% of families able to afford a median priced home.
The figure nationmde is 49%.
One of the biggest challenges to meeting the persistent demand for
housing is the availability of land. This is part of the reason SVLG is
excited about this new residential community. It proposes to convert
underutilized land to a more productive and much needed use-homes
for the families and individuals who struggle to work and live on the
Peninsula. And, by recycling our already built areas, pressure to
sprawl into our open spaces is alleviated.
We are also pleased that the development proposal \.\'ill provide entry-
level homes proximate to a broad range of goods and services,
incl uding down to"'ATl.
SVLG is supportive of this proposal for 100 condominiums at 43.5
homes to the acre v...ith 15% set aside at affordable rates. vVe encourage
your support and thank you for your consideration of our comments. 32
