Supervisor Rich Gordon...March 20th, 2006 Approvable -
I enjoyed the opportunity to meet with you recently to discuss the issues of housing in
San Mateo County. As you know, I am advocate for more housing.
,
It concerns me that our children who grow up in this County often have little chance of
owning a home here. The fact that eighty-five percent of the people who presently own a
home in San Mateo County could not afford to buy. that home at today's market price is
also troubling. We do not have housing for OUf workforce and employers find
recruitment to be all the more challenging given housing prices.
I believe that the construction of additional housing requires innovative approaches. We
must consider in.filJ development at a higher density. I also believe that such
development would best be located,in clase pro~imity to the dual transportation corridors
of Highway 101 and the CalTrain line.
I respect that every local city must make decisions abouL site-specific issues, but as
someone who has county-wide concerns I applaud those communities who approach thJs
issue with creative thinking.
