The Storefront Improvement Program has also been used as the source of <br /> funding for the downtown banner program. <br /> ■ Main Streef Improvements: Redevelopment bond funds rebuiit this street, creating brick <br /> paved sidewalks and planters and improving the physical pfant of the street (sewers, <br /> storm drains, etc.) <br /> ■ Economic Deve/opment Strategy and Development: After more than two years of effort <br /> the Agency, in conjunction with the City and the Redwood City Chamber of Commerce, <br /> adopted an Economic Development program in late 1996. As part of this program, an <br /> Economic Development staff position was also created, and filled in September 1997. <br /> ■ Mezes Plaza: This 56,000 square feet, finro-story o�ce/commercial building was <br /> completed in 1998. U.C. Berkeley Extension is the anchor tenant. <br /> ■ Marshall Street Parking Structure: This project, completed in March 1994, provides over <br /> 400 parking spaces for the Broadway and Civic Center areas. <br /> ■ Hamilton Street Improvements✓Downtown Entry Features: 1991 redevelopment bond <br /> funds rebuilt Hamilton Street, and were carried out in conjunction with an entry feature <br /> program designed to help identify and direct traffic to the downtown retail corridor. The <br /> program included the "Climate Best" arches, the Broadway/EI Camino Real clocktower <br /> (as distinguished from the Caltrain station clock tower), the City Center Plaza, and <br /> multiple types of directional signage. <br /> ■ Seaport Boulevard Extension: Completed in the mid-1980s as part of the Seaport <br /> Center, this $3.5 million dollar project upgraded the roadway to a four-lane arterial and <br /> allowed for the development of 1.6 million square feet of office and research and <br /> development space. <br /> ■ Sequoia Station: This 160,000 square feet retail center was completed in early 1994. It <br /> includes several restaurants and retail stores, including Safeway and Barnes � Noble. A <br /> second phase containing an additional 20,000 square feet was subsequently completed <br /> with Agency assistance. In addition, Caltrans rebuift the Caltrain Station immediately <br /> adjacent to the project and the Agency contributed funds to enhance the design. <br /> Agency progress in preserving and expanding the supply of housing available to low-and <br /> moderate-income households is described in Section H. <br /> E.
