5 -z
The ordinance, among other things, requires the Administrator to insure that all new
buildings in the floodplain be raised above the elevation of the base flood, which in
Redwood City is Elevation 7, based on mean sea level. If the building cannot be raised,
then the structure has to be flood-proofed by FEMA standards, and the owner needs to
provide flood insurance. Minor modifications in the new ordinance were added to provide
for a variance procedure, and an appeals process.
Alternative
The City must comply with the regulations and statutes governing flood protection, and
comply with standards as established by federal and State law. There is no practical
alternative to meet this mandate.
Fiscal Impact
The implementation of the Order will not have any impact on the City's budget. The City
will continue, as it always has, to administer the rogram.

 %/ !
` LL
c: !f!
