Status of Yellow Ribbon Committee -- TifFany Teele, Redwood City Liaison Ms. Teele thanked the Council for its support and gave a status on accomplishments since the adoption in August of the Headquarters Company, Screaming Eagles, First Brigade out of Fort Campb�ll, Kentucky. She asked the community to advise the committee of any family member or friend currently deployed in Iraq. Information should include the name of a local person as a point of contact and an APO and unit number for the soldier. She further stated that anyone wishing to become involved in the program can contact her at 650- 400-6764 or tiffanvCa�operationsupportourtroops.us The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Activities Building at 1400 Roosevelt Avenue in Redwood City. The committee website is www.vellowribbonrwc.com Mayor Ira and Vice Mayor Pierce commended Ms. Teele and encouraged the community to contact the committee to support their friends and family members deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. 6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AND CONSENT CALENDAR Greg Greenway, representing the Redwood City/San Mateo Chamber of Commerce, reported that the Chamber recently presented a check for $31,000. to Kainos as a result of the annual Wells Fargo Golf Toumament. The check represents the single largest donation that Kainos receives which is an outstanding organization that works with developmentally disabled adults. He thanked all those who participated and thanked Kainos. He announced the first annual Leadership Alumni Reception and Hall of Fame induction. On November 3 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Electronic Arts a reception as a reunion and recognition of outstanding leaders who graduated from the first class in 1988 will be held. The $30.00 to attend will go toward scholarships to help folks who may incur funding challenges to participate in the program. Tina Harmon, a Roosevelt Elementary School parent, thanked the Parks and Recreation Department and the School District for partnering to bring an after school program to Roosevelt Elementary. She stated that it is extremely important to the parents, the children are very happy. She further stated that the Parks and Recreation Department worked with the school to apply and receive a grant of $97,000. to establish an academic enrichment program. Mayor Ira gave a status report on the retail/cinema project, explaining that a construction delay has occurred mainly due to the worldwide glut on steel.
