Specificalty, t am responding fo recommendations 1
and 2.2,as thase ar8 the ones which apply to Redwood City.
The City Councii and the Redwood City Fire Department concur with the f►nd+ngs and
recommendations o#the Grand Jury regarding the need to take a leadership role in assuring our
cammunity is engaged in CERT training. Our program is undervvay, our first ciass has recentiy
graduated, and we are in the planing stages for the next class. We are aiso providing CERT
and other disaster preparedness infomnation on the Cits website. An initial goal of training 5%
of aur househalds is challenging, but we feel achievable.
The City is going even one step fi,Rher, by initiatty focusing its brand new°Neighborhood
Liaison°initiative on neighbarhood emergency preparedness, in order to bring emergency
preparectness to a very local, persanal fevel in aur community.
We agree that the mernbers of our Ciry Council can further their teadership role by going
throughte CERT#raining.
Sincerely,
'ccae— u......
Barbara Pierce
Mayor
cc: Members, City Council
Ed Everett,City Manager
Gerry Kohlmann, Police Chief
