<br />B. Economic Development Element of the General Plan and the 5-Year Economic <br />Development Implementation Plan <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Foust stated that Principal Planner Passinisi would be giVing an <br />overview of one of the optional elements of the General Plan which is the <br />Economic Development Element and explain why economic development is so <br />vital to the community. <br /> <br />Principal Planner Passinisi explained the optional element and the importance of it <br />being included. <br /> <br />Jeff Gee, Chamber Economic Development Vice Chair, stated that this is a unique <br />opportunity to look at an element that establishes a vision for Redwood City, the <br />assessment shows where we have been and where we are now, and the <br />strategies explain how to achieve that vision. <br /> <br />Housing & Economic Development Manager Webb gave a review of the last 10 <br />years since the 1996 strategy was adopted. She then explained that the 5-year <br />implementation plan is proposed because the economy cycles up and down and <br />will allow for better responsiveness. <br /> <br />Project Manager Young explained the assessment report. <br /> <br />Gee acknowledged staff and the various partners involved in the process. He also <br />explained the Chamber endorsements and recommendations. <br /> <br />Housing & Economic Development Manager Webb explained the <br />recommendations and possible questions to prompt the discussion. <br /> <br />Planning Commission Chair Seybert stated that economic development is the <br />outcome of the work the Commission does and is the reason he is pleased with it <br />being included as an element. <br /> <br />Mayor Pierce thanked all involved in the process. <br /> <br />Council Members thanked the Commission and staff for the effort, request for <br />more specificity around sustainability, efforts toward attracting alternative energy <br />companies was stated, take the guiding principles from the General Plan and plug <br />them into the element <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />MIS Foust/Ira to: <br />1.
