<br />Council Members discussion included agreement to change to a 5-Year <br />implementation plan with more specifics in the recommendations requested; <br />during the Council priority setting session in January or possibly at mid-year, <br />discussion to occur on having economic development be a stand alone entity <br />within the City; the need for an educated workforce was expressed; being more <br />proactive in attracting more businesses and diversity of housing was stated. <br /> <br />MIS Ira/Foust to: <br />2. Conceptually approve the proposed objectives and strategies contained in the <br />5-Year Economic Development Implementation Plan. The motion passed by <br />a unanimous voice vote by those present with Council Member Hartnett <br />absent. <br /> <br />Larry Buckmaster, Chamber of Commerce, stated that it has been a great process <br />and stated that the Board will devote a significant amount of time building on its <br />strategies to bring back to the City. <br /> <br />C. Response to Grand Jury Reports <br /> <br />Mayor Pierce stated that the packet contained three letters of response to Grand <br />Jury Reports, asking for concurrence on sending out the letters. <br /> <br />Council Member Bain asked that minor revisions be made to the letter on Page 3 <br />of item 9.C to reflect in the last paragraph that the City Council has already taken <br />a leadership role and is actively working with all neighborhoods to develop a <br />neighborhood specific plan. <br /> <br />MIS Howardllra to accept the letters with the recommended revision. The motion <br />passed by a unanimous voice vote by those present with Council Member <br />Hartnett absent. <br /> <br />D. Council Member Howard - announced that Sunday, October 15 would be a <br />party to celebrate the accomplishments in the downtown. She suggested arriving <br />at 11 :00 a.m. for the honoring of Jean Cloud, a longtime supporter of restoration <br />efforts and historical preservation in Redwood City who is celebrating her 100th <br />birthday. She asked that the community join the Pride & Beautification Committee <br />on Saturday, October 14 at 8:30 a.m. at the Publics Works Maintenance Center <br />on Broadway. The effort will focus on joining the downtown merchants to clean, <br />sweep and paint. She spoke of the demonstration ferry ride on Saturday, October <br />7 to the Port of San Francisco and stated that Berkeley and South San Francisco <br />is moving forward in their ferry service efforts.
