He implored Council to take <br />a firm stand, in writing, that recycled water not be used anywhere children are <br />likely to be present. He asked that the task force be empowered and have <br />balanced representation with voices from Redwood Shores and the Safewater <br />Coalition. <br />David Valkanaar, speaking as Vice President of the Redwood Shores Owners <br />Association, stated his credentials and that he understands the importance of <br />water and the consequence of shortages while acknowledging the Council's <br />concern that there be enough water available for both current and future residents <br />and businesses. He spoke of the flawed and unfairly biased processes used in <br />considering the recycled water issue at the July 28 Council meeting, citing various <br />points. He stated that he supports the overall program to utilize recycled water in <br />every reasonable way and agrees with the desire to continue to move forward but <br />urged Council to not force it on the citizens that do not want it on the parks and <br />playgrounds where their children play. On a personal basis, he stated that he <br />appreciates the sub - committees thoughts on the task force and asked that option <br />"E" not be used as a fall back and asked that the greater Bayfront development <br />area be required to plumb toilets and urinals to use recycled water. <br />Henry Tu used a PowerPoint presentation and stated various projects being <br />proposed in other areas with costs to be substantially less than the Redwood City. <br />He suggested sharing purchase of equipment with San Ramon cited other water <br />rates in various areas. <br />Marge Parkhurst spoke of previous presentations, read various written reports <br />and opinions and passed out materials to the Council and is a part of the record. <br />Camille Fischer stated she is a mother of two young children and has a degree in <br />microbiology, and is very concerned with the issue. She stated that there is <br />potential for the children to be exposed in many places and that we need to look <br />at other options. She stated that the contamination with antibiotics is a concern <br />and that efforts in conservation should be made <br />Rudy Luca stated that we are talking about sewage water recycling and asked <br />about added costs to the $43 million. He stated his confusion and concern with <br />appointments to the task force using the help of the City Manager and asked that <br />a citizen's committee make the appointments.
