Jeffrey Gee, Redwood Shores resident representing Redwood Shores
Community Association leadership, referred to a letter in the packet. He stated
that the RSCA executive leadership wants to be a partner with Council and staff
with the implementation plan. As a resident of Redwood Shores and Redwood
City, he offered to Council and staff his time to serve on the task force in bringing
the issue forward. He acknowledged that it would be a challenge but that working
together in a partnership through collaboration a plan could be developed that
uses recycled water with minimal contact to children.
Karen Pace stated her concerns with the project are two fold, one is to stress the
need to Council that recycled water not be used in schools, parks or anywhere
children will come in contact. She referred to documents outlining concerns
expressed she presented two weeks prior from the Department of Health Services
and the Water Reuse Foundation and stated her hope that the documents had
been reviewed prior to a decision. She stated that because they purchased a
townhouse the intention was for her young daughter to play in the common grass
area surrounding their home. She submitted for public record a petition of
signatures.
Dennis Wolfe commended Council for the effort put forth and stated his concern
about the task force that being the storming and the norming so that they can
form a decision. He stated his hope that Council will do all it can to work with the
citizens who become part of the task force to bridge the polarization. He thanked
Christina Lai for her effort.
Kate Eckhart thanked and gave appreciation to the efforts of Christina Lai and the
Safewater Coalition. She stated that desalinization is the answer and there are
many alternatives to consider. In order to have an effective task force results, we
must err on the side of caution.
Alan Bygdnes suggested a solution to be a desalinization plan where building
plans could go forward and no problem for the children would exist.
Pamela Estes, not a member of the Safewater Coalition and does not live in
Redwood Shores, stated she does not agree with the resolution adopted on July
28 and is opposed to the use for irrigating land where children play. She stated
that despite the best effort and precautions, accidents will occur and cross
contamination compromises public health and safety and creates a negative
-- REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING AUGUST 11, 2003
MINUTES PAGE 9
MINUTES Book No. 60
Page No. 30
