REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />Fmm the City Manager <br />September 22, 2003 <br />Subject <br />Final Acceptance — <br />Arterial Traffic Signal <br />Regional Traffic Signal ization/Operation Program (RTSOP II) — <br />Interconnect Project. <br />Recommendation <br />Accept the Regional Traffic Signalization/Operation Program (RTSOP II) — Arterial <br />Traffic Signal Interconnect Project, and authorize the release of bonds and retention. <br />Background <br />On September 9, 2002, the City Council passed a motion to approve the contract <br />documents and authorize the award of contract for the Regional Traffic <br />Signal ization/Operation Program (RTSOP II) — Arterial Traffic Signal Interconnect <br />Project, to the lowest responsible bidder, S.G. Barber Construction, Inc. of Belmont, <br />California, for the amount of $278,440.00. This project is being funded by Federal and <br />State grants in the amount of up to $292,000. Grant monies were also used for the <br />engineering of the project. <br />The project consisted of: <br />1. Upgrading and expanding the City's Central Traffic Signal System; <br />2. Installing new traffic signal controllers and controller cabinets at various <br />locations, and <br />3. Upgrading existing signal controllers, and 4) Installing new signal interconnect <br />cable and communication equipment. <br />This project was the second phase of a two -phase project to replace the City's outdated <br />traffic signal controllers and central management system. The first phase (RTSOP 1) <br />included upgrading signals in our downtown area and installing a new central computer <br />system at City Hall. This second phase included upgrading signals, and expanding <br />communication to signals on arterial streets outside of the Downtown Area, including <br />the signals in Redwood Shores and on Seaport Boulevard. <br />The original project cost was $278,440.00. One change order was issued for additional <br />work in the amount of $2,609.85, bringing the total project cost to $281,049.85. <br />ACCEPT_RTSOP2 <br />
