ATTACHMENT <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING <br />LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS <br />FA-3 <br />NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Ci4 of Redwood City will i a public <br />hearing on the expenditure of $44,937 in Local Law Enforcement Block Grant <br />funds for which the City will receive. The Omnibus Appropriations Act authorized <br />the Director of the Bureau of Justice Assistance to make funds available to units <br />of local government under the Local Law Enforcement Block Grants (LLEBG) <br />program for the purposes of reducing crime and improving public safety. Funds <br />must be used for one or more of the following seven proposed areas: <br />• Law Enforcement Support: Hire, train additional officers, pay overtime to law <br />enforcement officers, or procure equipment related to law enforcement <br />functions. <br />• Enhance security measures in and around schools or other facilities location <br />considered a special risk for incidents of crime <br />• Establish or support drug courts. <br />• Enhance the adjudication of cases involving violent offenders, including cases <br />involving violent juvenile offenders. <br />• Establishing a multi jurisdictional task force to work with federal law <br />enforcement to prevent and control crime. <br />• Establish crime prevention programs to control, detect, or investigate crime or <br />the prosecution of criminals. <br />• Defray the cost of indemnification insurance for law enforcement officers. <br />It will be the recommendation of the Police Chief to dedicate the funds for the <br />purchase of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) equipment and the funding of <br />Emergency Preparedness Training (EPT). <br />You have the right to comment on the proposed expenditure at a public hearing <br />to be held on the 22 day of September 2003, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at City <br />Hall, 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City California. Testimony must either be <br />given in person at he time of the public hearing or received, in writing, by the <br />police department prior to the date of the hearing.
