ATTACHMENT CITY OF REDWOOD CITY NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS FA-3 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Ci4 of Redwood City will i a public hearing on the expenditure of $44,937 in Local Law Enforcement Block Grant funds for which the City will receive. The Omnibus Appropriations Act authorized the Director of the Bureau of Justice Assistance to make funds available to units of local government under the Local Law Enforcement Block Grants (LLEBG) program for the purposes of reducing crime and improving public safety. Funds must be used for one or more of the following seven proposed areas: • Law Enforcement Support: Hire, train additional officers, pay overtime to law enforcement officers, or procure equipment related to law enforcement functions. • Enhance security measures in and around schools or other facilities location considered a special risk for incidents of crime • Establish or support drug courts. • Enhance the adjudication of cases involving violent offenders, including cases involving violent juvenile offenders. • Establishing a multi jurisdictional task force to work with federal law enforcement to prevent and control crime. • Establish crime prevention programs to control, detect, or investigate crime or the prosecution of criminals. • Defray the cost of indemnification insurance for law enforcement officers. It will be the recommendation of the Police Chief to dedicate the funds for the purchase of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) equipment and the funding of Emergency Preparedness Training (EPT). You have the right to comment on the proposed expenditure at a public hearing to be held on the 22 day of September 2003, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall, 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City California. Testimony must either be given in person at he time of the public hearing or received, in writing, by the police department prior to the date of the hearing. Testimony cannot be given over the phone.
