2 6'4 - <br /> Elden Tank 3561 Farm Hill Boulevard, spoke in support of the pro- <br /> posed allocation of $300,000 to provide funds to assist in relocating <br /> the present National Guard Armory at a new site in return for which <br /> the City is to receive the currently used site for leisure time <br /> services, and �t will be possible to develop a Senior Center In ' <br /> response to questions, Mr Tank sa�d that he foresees no difficulty <br /> in combin�n9 services of the present Senior Drop-In Center in the <br /> North Fair Oaks area with those to be provided at the new centrally <br /> located Senior Center, and comment was made that there would not <br /> appear to be any reason both facilities might not exist and serve <br /> the same needs in d�fferent areas much as facilities like tennis <br /> courts do <br /> 0 <br /> City Manager fales reviewed the background leading to the present <br /> recommendation relat�ng to the Sem or Center (For details, see <br /> pages 2 and 3 of the Budget Study Session Minutes of May 7, 1977). <br /> Mr. Fales advised that the State has filed the necessary application <br /> with the federal government to commence the relocation of the Armory <br /> He commended the Senior Center Advisory Committee for their efforts <br /> and named several national senior citizen organizations with lobbyists <br /> in Washington, D.0 which are sympathetic to the City's plan <br /> William Morrissey, Chairman, Senior Center Advisory Committee, ob- <br /> served that the Armory Site is close to the geographic center of the <br /> City as well as being located in the part of the City where the <br /> ma�ority of citizens 60 years and older reside and where public <br /> transportation is provided so that it should be well used <br /> Tom Jordan (see above) stated the Area Agency on Aging enthusias- � <br /> � tically supports the Sen�or Center pro,7ect and offered to assist <br /> in any way possible. <br /> Berniece Ziese Vice President of Fun After Fifty, spoke in support <br /> oi the expend�ture of $300,000 of Revenue Sharing Funds to assist • <br /> in the relocation of the National Guard Armory <br /> Pubiic Safetv Proqram (Law Enforcement Fire Safetv) (p 130) <br /> There being no one else who wished to speak regarding the relocation <br /> ot° the Armory to provide a Senior Center, Mayor Leipzig stated <br /> Ccunc7l wo�ld continue to consider Revenue Sharing expenditures <br /> as nresenied and observed that the Public Safety Program on page <br /> 13G �s before Council. <br /> No discussion. <br /> Transportatzon Proqram (Traveled Way Maintenance) (p. 131) <br /> �vo discussson <br /> Leisure Cultural and Information Services (Park and Recreation <br /> �=ac7lity Improvements Information Services-Library page 131) ' <br /> C�zy Manager Fales described the recorrrtnended expenditures, commenting <br /> on the $100,000 contribution of the estate of Sidney D Herkner to <br /> the cost of �rnprovements and reconstruction of the Commu m ty Park <br /> Ad,7 Mtq -6- <br /> �/!�/7i <br /> Budget <br />
