150 <br /> Discussion followed concerning the desirability of having the City <br /> well-represented at the Washington Conference when it will be pos- <br /> sible for Council members to meet with both local representatives <br /> and federal officials whose decisions greatly affect the City -, t <br /> In response to request, City Manager Fales reported on his recent <br /> trip to Washington with Port Manager DiPietro on behalf of the Port. � <br /> Mr Fales advised that progress has been made toward resolving the <br /> impossible situation which exists wherein the Army Corps of Engineers <br /> is required to dredge for channel maintenance at the Port, but the <br /> Fish and W�ldlife Bureau will allow deposit of spoils on Bair Island , <br /> only if the Port agrees to donate the land for wildlife uses after <br /> the spoils are accepted there, a donation the Port cannot make. <br /> Meetings were held with the offices of Senator Cranston and Congress- <br /> man Ryan and both representatives have indicated that inonediate <br /> attention will be given to the matter and efforts made to reach a <br /> compromise. <br /> Mr. Fales also advised that he and Mr DiPietro visited the Depart- <br /> ment of Commerce which is administering the Economic Development <br /> Admtnistration public works funds to inquired as to why Redwood <br /> City's appl�cation for EDA funds had been denied, and learned that <br /> a mistake had been made. The EDA acknowledged the error and assured <br /> them that the Port can expect to receive a grant of $850,000 in the <br /> near future for development of fuel and oil-handling facilities at <br /> dock No 4 <br /> The motion carried unanimously by roll call vote. x <br /> Oral Communications ' <br /> 1.
