Mr. Fales explained that management personnel in <br /> the Police Department and the Finance Department do so. <br /> In response to question as to whether it might be possible to add <br /> only one additional police officer, Mr. Fales advised that it would <br /> be possible but would have a negative impact on the accomplishment <br /> of the more intense police investigative effort which has been urged. <br /> Frank Esposito, 2434 Oregon, inquired as to whether the added park- <br /> ing enforcement position is for the benefit of the County. Mr. <br /> Fales explained that the City has the responsibility to enforce the <br /> parking regulations, noting that part of the need is caused by re- <br /> organization of the County courts which resulted in increased need <br /> for ,7ury parking and had an adverse effect on the parking spaces <br /> available for downtown business customers. <br /> Discussion followed concerning the present fine structure, the fact <br /> , that a recommendation is being prepared on the sub,7ect of parking <br /> fines, the need to obtain County cooperation to resolve the parking <br /> problem, and the possibility of County construction of a multi- <br /> story facility rather than use the only available vacant spaces <br /> for parking lots which might be better used for commercial purposes. <br /> Councilman Norris requested information from the Police Department <br /> regarding the ratio between sergeants and other officers, stating <br /> , he wishes to know the ratio of field supervisors to officers <br /> (memo 5/8/78) <br /> In response to question as to the adequacy of the amounts budgeted <br /> for the two new sergeant positions, Mr. Fales explained that �t <br /> is expected that two persons will be promoted and others will also <br /> move up, so that the increase will be reflected in lower salaried <br /> positions <br /> FIRE SAFETY (pp 13-16) <br /> ADMINISTERING FIRE SAFETY <br /> FIRE SUPPRESSION <br /> FIRE PREVENTION '' <br /> FIRE TRAINING <br /> FIRE AUXILIARY SERVICES <br /> , " DISASTER PROTECTION <br /> In response to questions regarding the closing of a fire station <br /> from time to time and whether it is needed, City Manager fales <br /> -3 Budget Study <br /> 5/6/78 <br />
