Discussion followed <br /> and Assistant C�ty Manager Smith indicated that, although certain ' <br /> complaints regarding the operations of the ranch near the coast were <br /> st�ll unresolved, there has been substantial improvement from a sani- <br /> tary standpoint. He commented on the valuable service provided by <br /> the facility which is utilized by the Police Department and welfare , <br /> agencies as a resource to provide shelter, food and medical aid. <br /> John Rosselli (see above) advised he is acquainted with Jack <br /> McLaughlin of Halfway House and that in addition to services pro- <br /> vided which were already mentioned, the Probation Department uses <br /> the Halfway House, and that it is an institution for those no one <br /> else will help. <br /> Discussion followed regarding the several requests for Revenue <br /> Sharing Funds and the belief expressed that the community receives � <br /> a great deal for the small investment. <br /> Cl�fford Boxley (see above) spoke in support of assist�ng Halfway <br /> House <br /> Larry Murphy (see above) was questioned by Council as to whether, <br /> if $7,000 were allocated, he would be able to obtain matching funds, <br /> and whether this would enable them to operate during the day as well <br /> as evenings. Mr. Murphy indicated that he believed so. <br /> �Lero Si�n leton, 1723 Rosemary, Chairman of PROBE, spoke in support <br /> o Tf he Way Inn. <br /> Frank Esposito, 2434 Oregon, commented regarding the many retired , <br /> people who must settle down to 11v1ng somewhat near the poverty level <br /> because of taxes <br /> In response, Council noted that elected officials recognize the <br /> problems of senior cit�zens and the retired and the need to cut <br /> taxes, as well as the problems caused by inflation; the fact that <br /> the City does provtde funds to the Sem or Drop-In Center, and that <br /> many of the services offered for low-income senior citizens, such as <br /> the Handyman Program, are probably not publicized enough. <br /> Mayor Barrett invited anyone else present who wished to speak to do <br /> so.
