Letter from Loma Prieta Chapter of Sierra Club re bicycle paths <br /> Vice Mayor Barrett invited anyone present who wished to speak <br /> concerning the content of the subject letter to do so. No <br /> one wished to speak <br /> 2. Letter from MidPeninsula Cab Co., Inc. requesting rate increase <br /> There being no ob,7ection, Vice Mayor Barrett ordered the sub- <br /> ,7ect letter referred to staff for report to Council. <br /> (memo 3/14/78) <br /> San Francisco Water Rates <br /> Attention was called to the City Manager's Report of March 13, 1978 re- <br /> garding City and County of San Francisco Water Rates and attaching <br /> a memorandum dated March 9 from the Deputy Director of Public Works- <br /> Operations ' <br /> MOTION Councilman Rhodes moved, seconded by Councilman Vega, that <br /> Council instruct the legal staff to take whatever legal action is <br /> necessary to force the San Francisco Water District to reduce <br /> water rates now that the drought emergency is over, and further, <br /> to invite other cities to �oin Redwood City in that legal action. <br /> City Manager Fales advised that the San Francisco Bay Area Water <br /> Users Association (SFBAWUA) has made it very plain that if the <br /> proposed 122� rate reduction is not made promptly and followed <br /> shortly thereafter by a further reduction, they will file suit. <br /> Mr. Fales noted that the relationship between the San Francisco <br /> Electrical Fund and the Water Fund is a matter of interest to <br /> SFBAWUA also, since the Electrical Fund can be used to subsidize <br /> the San Francisco General Fund <br /> City Attorney Schricker advised that the SFBAWUA's legal counsel <br /> is very familiar with the situation and has been quite effective, <br /> so that add�tional legal action by the City might involve duplicate <br /> effort and expense and wasted time Mr. Schricker suggested that <br /> he understands that Council wishes to be kept well-informed on what <br /> is taking place and would like to have status reports on the efforts <br /> of SFBAWUA regarding the water rate reduction. <br /> CHANGE OF MOTION. With the consent of his second, Councilman Rhodes ' <br /> changed his motion to ask for a report on the efforts of the SFBAWUA <br /> with regard to obtaining adequate reduction of water rates and that <br /> the City be ready to take legal action and, if necessary, to be a <br /> leader in obtaining a fair reduction <br /> The motion as changed carried unanimously by voice vote <br /> (MINUTE ORDER N0. 78-67) <br /> Reg.Mtg. -4 <br /> 3/13/78 <br /> �� � <br />
