(A letter was received from Nita H. <br /> Spangler, 970 Edgewood Road, dated April 13, before the public <br /> hearing was scheduled for the City Council Agenda.) <br /> Mayor Le�pzig invited anyone present who wished to speak to do so. <br /> Lillian Thomas,�4140 Jefferson, President of the Redwood City Heri- <br /> tage Associat�ori, stated that her organrzation supports approval of <br /> the Historic Element as proposed, but that if any changes or modi- <br /> fications`a;e to be made, she urged a task force or conanittee be <br /> permitted to study them Mrs. Thomas suggested guidelines for the <br /> use of building departments have been necessary to provide flexi- <br /> b�lity with regard to,application of building codes. <br /> � � <br /> In response to question regarding preservation of historic trees, <br /> City Attorney Schricker called attention to Chapter 35 of th2 <br /> Municipal Code relating to preservation of trees. <br /> ' Mr. Fales adv9sed that the Downtown Act�on Committee has expressed <br /> an'interest in the proposed Historic Landmarks Element, but has not <br /> had an opportu m ty to read and discuss it They will meet on <br /> Thursday, May 20, 1976 to consider it, and Mr. Fales recommended <br /> that the public hearing be continued until a later date in order <br /> � that Council might include the comments of the Downtown Action - <br /> Comnittee in the public testimony <br /> Hazel Will�ams 1730 Alameda, urged approval of the sub�ect Element <br /> as proposed, � <br /> Resident, 2466 Oregon, urged adoption of the sub,7ect Element as ' <br /> proposed, noting he is most interested in restoration of homes�. <br /> Gladys Woodhams, 1018 Main Street, called attention to an article <br /> which appeared in an Annapolis, Maryland, newspaper d'escrib`ing <br /> Redwood City�in unflattering terms Mrs Woodhams suggested that <br /> perhaps� if the author had been advised of the local interest in <br /> historic preservation, the article might have been more compli- <br /> mentary.
