�� �_� �� 3� 9 9 <br /> . ^ �� <br /> � <br /> � The motion died for lack of a second <br /> u <br /> � MOTION Councilman Norris moved, seconded by Councilman Biagi, to <br /> eliminate the Noontime Program at Junior High Schools for a saving <br /> ° of $3,452 <br /> ,� The motion fatled on voice vote <br /> � Discussion continued regarding illumination of tenm s cour�s while <br /> not in use <br /> Mr Weeks responded to questions by Council regarding illumination <br /> of tenn�s courts while apparently not in use, and advised they <br /> are regulated by time clocks which are set to turn off at a ftxed <br /> time Occasionally it is possible also that the clocks get out <br /> of sequence He did not believe coin-operated meters would pay <br /> their way, and in addition, the City's courts are lighted in pairs <br /> making the separation for metering purposes difficult He also <br /> commented on the possib�lity of co�n-operated nets, but indicated <br /> that converting to a coin-operated turnstile would probably be <br /> the most feasible system <br /> Responding to questions regarding the spr�nkler systems, Mr. Weeks <br /> advised they are monitored at present, and that they are considering <br /> moisture-sensing devices, and w111 be used in the Palm Park con- <br /> struction <br /> Mr. Weeks advised that the problems relating to abuse to the parks <br /> by people bringing in their pets ha�e increased to such°an extent <br /> ,� that the department has developed a"dog incident report", and <br /> that Council will be given this information in the near future. ' <br /> He also noted that the ordinance prohibits dogs tn any of the <br /> ' City parks, whether or not on a leash. <br /> � Ione Jenr�ings (no address given), commented on the potent�al � <br /> q health problems due to parasites that can be carrted by dogs <br /> MOTION Councilman Norr�s moved, seconded by Councilman Rhodes, <br /> to provide in this budget for a patrol`vehicle and animal`control � <br /> offtcer to augment existing levels of service provided by the ' <br /> Peninsula Humane Society, <br /> Zuma Francis, 904 Cleveland , related difficuTties she <br /> has encountered while walking her pet on a leash, caused by <br /> roaming unsupervised dogs <br /> Mr Fales commented and responded to questions regarding the <br /> proposal and noted it has been presented in previous budget <br /> study sessions, that it would simply be intended to augment an <br /> existing service, and suggesting that having the City provide its <br /> own patrol officer might well cause the Humane Society to shift <br /> part of its patrol services elsewhere, thus defeating the intent <br /> of augmenting the existing level of patrol He added it is not <br /> , intended that the City maintain a separate holding facility for <br /> the hours when the Humane Society is not open <br /> CHANGE OF MOTION Counctlman Norris, with the consent of his <br /> second, changed his motion to direct staff with respect to a ' <br /> � patrol vehicle and control office to augment the Peninsula <br /> " -5- <br /> � Budget Study <br /> ' 5/22/76 <br /> , � <br />
