BI.RY MAIN LIBRARY <br /> JUNE 21, 1976 4.00 P.M. <br /> BOB NORRIS <br /> , BILL RHODES <br /> FERNAl�O YEGA <br /> � Ad�ourned Meeting � <br /> The CounciT of the City of Redwood C�ty met on this date at 4 00 p m <br /> in an ad�ourned meeting from June 17, 1976, with Mayor Leipzig <br /> presiding over a,7oint meeting of the City Council and the Library <br /> Board of Trustees, for discussion of matters of mutual interest. <br /> Roll Call <br /> Councilmen present Barrett, Biagi, Bury (entered the meeting at <br /> 4 33 p m,), Norris, Vega and Mayor Letpzig <br /> Councilmen absent Rhodes <br /> Ltbrary Board of <br /> Trustees members present Daniel, Johnson, Miller, Rouse, Rowe <br /> Officials and staff present City Manager Fales, Assistant City <br /> Manager Smith, City Librarian Vollmayer, Assistant City Attorney <br /> ' Maloney, Deputy City Clerk Reggetts <br /> Discussion ' <br /> Justice Rouse, President of the Library Board of Trustees, opened <br /> the discussion, with additional comments from the Board members, <br /> relating to material previously furnished to Council in support of � <br /> ' their request, and generally to the need for additional space for <br /> materials, the problem of diffusion of library facilities, the <br /> reasons for concern relative to deletion of y10,000 in Revenue Shartng <br /> funds from the Library allocation intended for the film library col- <br /> lection, and referred to a consultant's (Raymond Holt) recommendations <br /> relating to space needs and desirability of the audio-visual function <br /> of the library from a 1969 report Some examples of the benefits <br /> and advantages of films avaiiable for individuai and group viewing <br /> were given and it was pointed out that there are 1e9a1 obstacles to <br /> charging fees as a means of recovering costs for the use of these <br /> materials under the Education Code <br /> Discussion continued, with Council inquiring as to the percentage <br /> of film users, noting that few individuals are likely to own or have <br /> access to 16 mm sound pro,7ection equipment It was also pointed out <br /> by Council that not only the Library, but each Department in the City <br /> ' had been required to sacrifice all but essential programs in the <br /> budget <br /> In response to question by Council, it was indicated that the $10,000 <br /> requested for the film program was for additional materials, rather <br /> Ad,7 Mtg <br /> , w/Library� <br /> 6/21/76 � i <br /> I <br />
