' <br /> The Trustees named some of the conditions which were considered un- <br /> satisfactory, such as inaccessibility of the second floor stacks to <br /> the handicapped, lack of a proper loading dock, and basement storage <br /> of magazines and records The age of the main library building was <br /> �oted and comparisons made of the size and age of the facility with <br /> other city libraries on the Peninsula in relation to population <br /> Various alternative methods of funding new facilities were su9gested. <br /> During the discussion which followed, Mr Fales assured the Trustees <br /> with respect to securing grant and revenue sharing funds, that the <br /> C�ty staff is not without exQertise He also respo�ded to comments <br /> regarding financing by bond issue and, in view of the fact that the <br /> City Hall was built at the same time as the Library, with both being <br /> equally outdated, cautioned against separating the library from the <br /> civic center if that option is considered He noted the importance <br /> of good timing with respect to the attitude of the voters under pre- <br /> vailing economic conditions, in the event of bond election. <br /> As discussion continued, a citizens advisory committee was suggested <br /> to consider various methods of financing new facilities Assistant <br /> City Manager Smith referred to the forthcoming conferences beginning <br /> Saturday, June 26, regarding housing condit�ons, in which interested <br /> Redwood City residents are invited to participate and�offer ideas for <br /> making effective use of federal funds that will be allocated to the ' <br /> City for community development, and thought the Library Trustees <br /> might wish to attend to obtain ideas regarding strategy Council <br /> also suggested that the Trustees might provide, with respect to the <br /> proposed citizens advisory committee, some guidelines as to how it <br /> should function, etc., and noted the City Manager's indication of <br /> availability of information on options for fundyn9 from that office. <br /> Council commended the members of the Library Board for their deep <br /> concern for the successful operatlon of the L�brary, and Mayor <br /> Leipzig commented on the Council's desire to continue holding ,7oint <br /> meetings with the Library Board on a regular basis, suggesting they <br /> might be held on a quarterly basis. <br /> In other comments by the Council, it was indicated that desp�te the <br /> fact that conditions in the Library are not the best, it is still <br /> one of the best run in the State <br /> Ad�ournment <br /> MOTION Counc�lman Norris moved, seconded to Councilman Bury, to <br /> ad,7ourn to regular meeting at 7 30 p.m , this date, in the Board of <br /> Supervisors Chambers <br /> The motion carried unanimously by vo7ce vote ' <br /> The �oint meeting ad�ourned at 6 02 p m <br /> FRANCES I REGGETTS <br /> Deputy C�ty Clerk <br /> -2- <br /> Ad�.Mtg. <br /> ' w/Library <br /> ' 6/21/76 <br />
