4 5'4 <br /> Award oi Rid - F1 Can R eal Under9round Pru����_t <br /> City Manager Fales referred to his report of June 17, 1976 regarding <br /> the award of contract for the E1 Camino Real Street Lighting Pro�ect <br /> and attaching report from the Director of Public Works, dated June 16. <br /> Mr Fales recommended that the contract be awarded to Steiny and Co., ' <br /> Inc , Valle�o, on the basis of their low bid in the total amount of <br /> $57,798. <br /> MOTION: Title having been read, Councilman Vega introduced the fol- <br /> lowing resolution and moved, seconded by Councilman Barrett, �ts <br /> adoption <br /> RESOLUTION N0. 7618 AWARDING CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF STREET <br /> LIGHTING PROJECT ON EL CAMINO REAL (ROUTE 82) BETWEEN SAN CARLOS <br /> CITY LIMITS AND WOODSIDE EXPRESSWAY IN THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, <br /> RE�ECTING ALL OTHER BIDS RECEIVED, AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF <br /> CONTRACT FOR SAID WORK, AND DIRECTING RETURN OF SECURITY DEPOSITS <br /> The resolution was adopted unanimously by roll call vote <br /> Community Information Report <br /> City Manager Fales presented the sub�ect report dated June 17, 1976, <br /> noting an error �n the paragraph relating to Building Construction <br /> Statistics which should be corrected as follows 1975 -$3,948,441 <br /> and 1976 - $5,972,623 <br /> Mr. Fales also called attention to Deputy Director of Public Works <br /> Fred Sennewald who spent his vacation in San Andreas, Sa,7acaba�a, ' <br /> Guatemala helping villagers rebuild their school's roof and some <br /> houses which were destroyed during the recent earthquake, observing <br /> the City is proud to have such an employee ' <br /> Mayor Leipzig also complimented Mr Sennewald for his volunteer ' <br /> efforts in helping the earthquake victims in Guatemala. <br /> Attention was called to the vandalism at the test site of the Salt <br /> Water Intrusion Test Pro,7ect in Redwood Shores which will delay park <br /> construction there; to the destruction by vandals of lighting fixtures <br /> in Redwood Shores and elsewhere in the City, to the vandalism at Mezes <br /> Park where young trees were destroyed, and to the burning of a home <br /> caused by children playing with illegal fireworks <br /> Discussion followed and Mr Fales corronented concernin9 the fact that <br /> taxpayers are becoming increasingly aware of the high cost of van- <br /> dalism, the undesirability of havin9 "vigilante" groups take the law <br /> into their own hands in dealing with vandals, the diffi culty of <br /> apprehending vandals unless citizens cooperate wtth the police, and <br /> the fact that some parents do not inform themselves of the whereabouts <br /> of their children Anyone who is aware of an act of vandalism or <br /> observes any suspicious behavior was urged to cooperate with the <br /> ' police department in attempting to reduce the amount of vandalism <br /> and to report the incident immediately.
