i <br />0 <br />1 <br />0 <br />1 <br />• <br />0 <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br />MAY 21, 1945 <br />8:00 P.M. <br />On roll call the following were present: Councilmen Harold F..Anderson, C::C.. <br />Armstrong, Carl Britschgi, E. A. Fletcher, Floyd D. Granger, George W. <br />McNulty, Mayor W. W. Hilton and City Clerk R. S. Dodge. Also present were: <br />City Manager Robert W: Mead, City Attorney Paul A. McCarthy, Police Chief <br />C. L. Collins, Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Lodi, Building Inspector L. M. Dun- <br />can, City Collector N. L. Miramontes, Street Superintendent H. L. Winter <br />and Health Inspector Emil Stein. <br />Minutes of previous meeting were approved on motion of Councilman Anderson, sec- <br />onded by Councilman McNulty. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Application for dance permit was received from George H. Moseley, Peninsula Lodge <br />of Elks (colored) for public dance Thursday, hFiav 31, no fee having been paid . <br />Councilman Britschgi moved, seconded by Councilman P.eNTI-1lty, that permit be <br />granted subject to fee being paid. Motion passed unanimously. <br />Application for dance permit was received from Yvonne Schlichtmann to conduct <br />dances Wednesdays, May 23, 30, fee having been paid. Councilman Armstrong <br />asked the Chief of Police if he knew of any reason why the permit should be <br />denied. Chief Collins replied that he did not. Councilman Armstrong asked <br />if there had been no reports of disturbances to which Chief Collins replied <br />that there had been a disturbance a short time ago which had taken place <br />outside of the dance hall and in answer to Councilman Armstrong's question <br />if it hadn't taken seven policemen,to handle the disturbance, replied that <br />all seven policemen were there at the time. Councilman Armstrong was of the <br />opinion that any disturbance which took the sergices of seven policemen to <br />quell. was very serious and believed the Council vias in error to allow liquor <br />to be sold at the public dances and moved that the permit be granted with <br />the understanding that no liouor be sold on the premises and if there are any <br />further disturbances permits will be denied. The motion was seconded by <br />Councilman Anderson. Under the question, Councilman Granger asked that the <br />matter be laid over until later in the meeting because those involved might <br />appear in their own support and the Council could tell them on what grounds <br />the permits were being issued. Both Councilmen Anderson -and Armstrong were <br />willing to have the matter laid over. <br />Communication was received from J. P. Gordon, Acting 11anager of the Litton Engin- <br />eering Laboratories, requesting that the property of the Litton Engineering <br />Laboratories not be included in proposed anneyation of Palomar Park. Council- <br />man Armstrong moved, .seconded by Councilman Fletcher, that the letter be re- <br />ferred to the Planning Commission for their consideration with other matters <br />pertaining to this tract. Motion passed unanimously. <br />
