Motion passed unanimouely. <br /> There wae some diecusaion in regard to the matter of opening Cedar Street from <br /> $tambaugh to Hilton Streets and the City Manager was suthorized to proceed <br /> with negotiations for the purchase of property to open Cedar Street from <br /> Stambaugh Street to Ailton Street on motion of Councilman Werder, seconded � <br /> by Councilman Armstrong. Motion paesed unanimously. <br /> Councilman Armstrong aeked if there wae going to be any recommendation on Mr. <br /> Mark Ryan's, the former fire chief, suggestion for the establishment of the <br /> position of Fire Inspector. Chief Lodi spoke highly in favor of such a <br /> position and also atressed the need for it, City Manager Blom was aleo in <br /> favor of the position and also advised that the present fire ordin�nce was ' <br /> badly in need of revision. Chief Lodi wae of the opinion that the posi- <br /> tion would require a man with fire experience and building experience. It <br /> vras the general conaensus of the Council that inasmuch as the former fire <br /> chief and the present fire chief were both 1n favor of such a position that <br /> their recommendation be sustained. It was decided that the salary for thie <br /> position be set at the rate of �250 to $275 per month. Councilman Granger <br /> moved introduction of ealary ordinance including the position of Fire <br /> Inepector at a ealary of $250 to �275 per month, seconded by Councilman � <br /> McNulty. Under the question, Councilman McNulty questioned whether the <br /> library employees were satisfied with their salaries. City �anager Blom <br /> advised that he had not followed the recommendation of the Library Board <br /> in all cases but that in some case had raiaed the minimum and lowered the <br /> maxim� rates. He had compared local salaries of neighboring citiee and ' <br /> they compared very favorably. Motion paesed unanimously. <br /> Claims No. 7048 to 709� in the amount of $2756.08 were approved and ordered <br /> paid on motion of Councilman McNulty, seconded by Councilman Armetrong. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. ' <br /> Councilman McNulty queetioned the fact that driveways were being built which <br /> � were not flush with the sidewalks in the business district.
