OLD SCHNERR FIRE TRUCK: City Nanager Blom,reported that repaira on the old �chnerr fire truck would be so extensive that they are not practical. He stated that the fire truck Nas now in the Corpora.tion Yard and suggested that it be sold for salvage v&lue. On motion of Councilman Svuift, second- ' ,ed by.Co.uncilman McNult;y, City Manager Hlom was authorized to advertise for bids on this fire truck on its salvage value. PARKING FACILITIES, California Sa,uare: City Engineer riilson reported on the cost of providing parking facilities in California Square as requeated at ,, � ........ . - the Council meeting of August 5, 1946. City Engineer �Pilson reported tha.t � the cost of sidewalks and gutters, renioval of trees, and laying of 5° crusher run base and 1/2" armor coat would coet approximately �10.071. Councilman Granger suggested that bond funds allocated to the improvement of California 3quare could be utilized. City Attorney McCarthy.pointed out that the 1944 plan of improvement provided for.specific park improve- ments, and that the parking places were probably not within the bond iasue for California Square. City h�anager Blom suggested some of the money from ' the Off Street Parking Fund might be appropriately applied to this pur- pose. On motion of Councilman �Yerder, seconded by Councilman McNulty, the City Engineer was instructed to prepare pla.ns and specifications to carry out the project of converting the outer portion of California Square to parking purposes, as indicated in diagram prepared by 1Villiam P. Mott and presented by Councilman Granger. BROAD�t'AY TO �4IDDLEFIELD ROAD, Acquisition of area Parallel to Main 8treet: City Attorney McCarthy informed the Council that suit had been filed to • condemn property for a new street between Middlefield Road and Broadway, parallel to Main Street. City Manager Blom suggeeted that a petition might be circulated among the property ovaners of this area for the forma- tion of a parking district. Mr. Blom then presented a plan to reserve a ' portion of this area for parking and which would allow the flow of traffic and prohibit frontage to buildings on this street. On motion of Council- man 4Yerder, aeconded by Councilman Swift,.City Manager Blom wa.s authorized to.have plans prepared indicating the use of the area between Middlefield Road and Broadway as a parking area, available for rear delivery to Main ' Street and Jeffereon Avenue property, and permit the flow of traffic, and that these plans be presented with a petition to the property owners for the acquisition of the property.
