He aited other towns 1 <br /> whiah have allowed amoke houses and eaid that:only wood would be burned, <br /> Councilman Hritscagi believed tnis wae a matter to place on the ag'enda e.nd <br /> Councilman Anderson was of the opinion that the people in the neighbornood <br /> snould be allowed to protest. Oouncilman Armstrong moved, seconded bq <br /> Councilman Andereon, that the application be placed on the agenda for the ' <br /> next meeting of the Council and that property ownere within 300•feet of the <br /> proposed smoke nouse be notified by postcard and given an opportunity to <br /> protest by letter,. Under the question,.tn�re was some diecusaion as to the <br /> size of stack contemplated, Councilman (iranger raised the question of aI- <br /> lowing light industry in that area and eapressed the opinion that if that � <br /> were allowed it would result in an induatrial area within a residental area. <br /> Some of the councilman were not in favor of notifying tne property owners � <br /> but belleved it was a aratter for the.health department to decide. (7ounail- <br /> man Briteongi stated he was going to vote against the raotion becauae he did <br /> not feel it ga9e Mr. Silliman a fair cnance to ehow vrriat he intended to do. <br /> He believed the application ahould be referred to the City Manager,Por a <br /> report from tbe nealth department and building inspector, Mr. Silliman 1 <br /> asked to be allowed to erect the amoke house wita.the understanding tnat if <br /> tnere were any oojections he would.remove it, however, Counoilman Armatrong <br /> believed it would be better to know of any protests before the permit was <br /> granted. The motion passed with Counoilman.Britschgl noting in the negative, <br /> Reporte of the Oity Manager in re�ard to etudy oY bida for new Pire eauipment, <br /> impiovement of alleys west of E1 Camino Real and requeet for fire hydrants <br /> on Bayshore Hignway, were placed�on tne agenda of the next meeting. � <br /> City Attorney MeCarthy adviaed that he nad written Mr, Manning, head of the Land <br /> Department of the 8outhern Pacific.Company, and asked nim if the Southern <br /> Pacific would release tne city from the restriciione in the deed to land on <br /> Penneylvania Avenue which limits the use of the land to playground or <br /> recreational area. He had asked for a decision to be made by thie date but ' <br /> had not aeard from Mr. Mannitt� as to ihe decision reacued and aeked that <br /> the matter oe neld over until mext meeting, <br /> Counailman Anderson moved, seconded by Oouncilman McNUlty, that affidavits oY <br /> publication and of poeting noticea in regard to hearing on Notice of <br /> Proposed Improvemente, Broadway, Liguori, Beecn and Maple Streete be ' <br /> filed. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> Co,uncilman Fletcner moved, eeconded oy pouncilman Anderson, adoption of resolution <br /> of preliminary determination for lmprovemente on Broadway, Liguori, Beech <br /> and Maple Streete. On roll ca11, resolution wae unanimouely adopted. <br /> � ' � <br />
