Councilman Fletcher <br /> moved, seconded by Councilman McNulty that permit be granted. Motion paesed <br /> unanimouely, � <br /> Application for restaurant livense wae received from Nunes and Bausch, dba, Red- <br /> ' wood City Creamery, 917 Main Street, to serve light lunch in connection with <br /> soda fountain,� Fee has been paid. Councilman Fletcher moved, seconded by <br /> Councilaran Britschgi, that the permit be granted subject to the approval o£ <br /> tne HeaTth Department Motion passed unanimously, <br /> , Petition �ras received eigned by three property owners requesting concrete curbs <br /> and gutters and street paving between gutters in accordance with Redwood City <br /> specificationa on Raft Street between Roosevelt and Vera Avenuea, The three <br /> signers compose more than 50� of the property ownera involved, Councilman <br /> Granger moved, seconded by Councilman Armetrong, that the petition be re- <br /> ferred to the City Manager for recommendation, Motion passed.unanimously, <br /> • Mr, Graham Adams appeared as spokesman for tne Hospital Committee asking that the <br /> / Oouncll guarantee the County�Clerk that election expenses involved in placing <br /> � the matter of the hospital district before the electorate would be assumed <br /> by the City of Redwood City in the event that the formation of a hospital . <br /> dietrict was not favorably voted upon, He advised that if tue election was <br /> favorable to the forming of such a district, there would be no expense in- <br /> ' volved, It was the opinion of the Hospita.l Committee that the City of <br /> Redwood City should assume the obligation of gua,ranteeing such payment in- <br /> aemuch as this city was responsible Yor formulating the plans for such a dis- <br /> trict. City Attorney McCarthy rendered a written report which he read and <br /> which set forth that the city could legally make such a conmitment, Council- <br /> man Armatrong offered for adoption resolution indemnifyiug t�e Count,y of 6an <br /> h4ateo a sum not to exceed $2100 in the event the election to form a h oepital <br /> district fails, The motlon was seconded by Councilman Fletcher and on roll <br /> • call was unanimously adopted, <br /> RESOLU'TION.No. 279 <br /> WHEREAS the Citp Council of Redwood City did, at its regular meeting mf <br /> January 21at, 1946, officially accept and endorse a report of a"Hoepital <br /> Committee" appointed by eaid Council, and <br /> WHEREA9 the report of s�.id committee contemplated action leading to a <br /> ' special election in certain areae in southern 9an Mateo County to create a <br /> local Hospital diatrict under recently enacted atatutes of the Legislature <br /> of the State of California, such district to include the incorporated area <br /> of the City of.Redwood City, and <br /> �'1HEREA5 it now appears that the County oY San Mateo will require that <br /> the sponsor of such request for a special election post satisfactory assur- <br /> ance to cover cost of such special election to pzotect sa.id County of San <br /> Mateo against loss in the event such election should fail to secure the <br /> ' necessary vote to create said Hospital District, and <br /> WHEREA3 there would be no coet to the sponsors thereof is:tne event such <br /> election should result in the creation of such proposed Hoepital Dietrict, <br /> NOVP THEREFORE, BE IT RE30LVED that the City Council of the City of Red- <br /> wood City does hereby agree to indemnify the County of San Mateo in an amount <br /> not to exceed �2100.00 being the estimated cost of such special election, �t <br /> being understood that if such special election ehall result in the creation <br /> of a Local Hospital District then the City of Redwood City shall not be liable <br /> , for any part of eucn costs of said epecial election, <br /> � � <br /> \ <br />
