� 255 � <br /> in regard to claimed fire damage to trees at 237 Topaz Street, �vhich had <br /> • purportedly occurred during the last rreed abatement program, City Manager <br /> Blom advised that Mr. Lorenzon originally claimed that the city damaged <br /> ten of his trees and asked�for �100 damagee; Chief Ryan investigated the <br /> matter and £ound th�.t in addition to the fire which Mr, Lorenzon claimed <br /> damaged the trees, another fire occurred a few weeks later and it was be- <br /> ' lieved some of the damage was done a.t that time, Mr. Lorenzon wae advised <br /> that City Manager Blom and Fire Chief Ryan would recommend that �25 dam- <br /> ages be pa.id him for damage to five trees which the city may h�.ve damaged, <br /> City Manager Blom recommended that a claim of �25 be approved, Council- <br /> ma.n Fletcher moved that the city manager�s recommendation be accepted and <br /> , �25 damages allowed, Councilman Anderson asked if this matter should not <br /> be referred to the insurance company, After some discussion in regard to <br /> this, Councilman Anderson moved, seconded by Councilman Britscngi, that <br /> the matter be referred to tne city manager and that he have a statement <br /> from the insurance company as to horv the city is covered in ihe matter, <br /> � The motion passed unanimouely. <br /> City Manager Slom advised that in regard to the extension of the electric <br /> system on Jefferson tietween Broadway and Marshall, plans had been made in <br /> the past to install four single type electroliere on thie block and that <br /> bases have been laid for two. The total cost of this work, including that <br /> a.lready done; would amount to �p1500. There are 600 feet of frontage on <br /> ' thia block which would mean an aeseaement of �2.50 per front foot ag�inst <br /> the property ovmere, He asked the Council if it desired him to nroceed with <br /> the plans, �'he Council indicated that thie should be done, <br /> City Manager Blom reported that a petition had been received some time ago re- , <br /> questing that an alley between Vera and Madieon Avenues running from <br /> Cleveland to Fulton Streets be improved, He advised that this project oouTd <br /> be done at the same time improvemente are made on Jefferson, ra,ua,rt2 and <br /> Vera Avenuee and asked if the Council wished it to be done. Councilman <br /> � Granger•reaised the question that if this alley were improved it might be <br /> turned into a street and houses built facing it. He did not believe thie <br /> should be allowed and that there should be�some provision whereby houees <br /> could be built on streets of a certain width, Councilman Britschgi moved, <br /> seconded by Councilman Fletcher, that this matter be referred to the <br /> ' Planning Commission for a recommendation, Motion passed unanimously, <br /> City Manager Blom's report on meeting with the joint fact-finding committee of <br /> tne $tate Legislature was held over until a future date. <br /> Communication was received from City BGanager Blom z.dvising that the Board of � <br /> ' Review,at a receni meeting took action to recommend to the City Council <br /> that the rules and regulations of the Personnel System be amended to per- <br /> mit the Council to grant exteneion of a leave of absence in excesa oY one <br /> year when in its judgment such an extension of leave is justified and it <br /> nas been approved by the Board of Review.
