City Manager Blom explained that <br /> thia was merely good engineering practice and eliminated the poseibility of ' <br /> tne street sinking which happens several times when the water metnod of fi�- <br /> ling the trenches is followed, The Council agreed tnat tnis was a matter <br /> J <br /> wnicn snould be left to tne discretion of the City Manager. <br /> I�r. John McCarthy also protested not being aole to install combined curbs and <br /> aidewalks and asked that some definite plicy be established in thie matter. • <br /> He believed an ordinance should be passed in regard to such regulatione. , <br /> Diiy Manager Blom presented a sketcn sno�ning combined curbs and sidewalks, <br /> rolled curbs and the standard curb and sidewalk. His protest to the com- <br /> bined curb and sideti�a.lk tira.s tria.t it did not erect a sufficient barrier from <br /> preventing vehiclee from going over the curb. There was not sufficient pro- <br /> tection for pedestrians on the sidewalk, Tne rolled curb doea not eerve trie ' <br /> purpose of a curb. Trie combined curb and sidewalk does not leave an opening <br /> for future utility installations. He recommended that the Council either <br /> retain the present atandard curb and aidewalk or, as an alternate to use tne <br /> rolled curb. Councilman Fletcner was in favor of tne rolled curb while <br /> Councilman Britschgi and Mayor Hilton were in favor of retaining the preeent <br /> standard type of curb and sidewalk. The matter, after further discizssion, <br /> was placed on tne agenda £or further consideration and more information from <br /> ttie City Lianager. � <br /> Mr. Ludwig PJerder asked if any provision had been made for the extension of water <br /> mains in the industrial area, The City Manager ivas aeked to review this <br /> matter by the next meeting of the Council. . <br /> City Manager Hlom advised tna.t Mr, Cnarles FY. Diel had requested permission to <br /> purchase a piece of land about one acre in size�on the north side of Bay , <br /> Road and east of Cnestnut Street in tne general area of the old well house. <br /> The matter had been presented to the real estate committee who recommended <br /> that the city hold this property until it is determined what land the State � <br /> will reo,uire for the building of the Freeway. Councilman Fletcher moved, , <br /> seconded by �+ayor Hilton that the recommendation of the real estate com- <br /> mittee be accepted. �otion passed unanimously, � <br /> City �4anager $lom reported that he riad checked with the County Tax Collector to <br /> determine vanetrier the purcnaser of Lot 6, Block B, Boyd and Kent,'s Addition <br /> was tne original owner. County Tax Collector A4cArthur advised him that it <br /> was not the original owner, Councilman Fletcher moved, seconded by Council • <br /> I <br />
