Tr�ffic S�fety iasues The �mposed project would result in higher kraffic voIumes and the potential for a higher number of accidents on Highland Avenue. As outlined in Table 2, daily traffic volumes wou2d increase by 9-12% on Highland Avenue. Although these increases would add proportional]y to the patential for traffc accidents, the change would �ot be considered significant." I]ive on Highland Avenue (have for 30 years). We don't have sidewalks and the only street parking we have is where homeowners dug into their hillside and made parking spots. There are a few houses without any parking in front of them and one house without a driveway. I can tell you that even though the report says that the prnject increasing our traffic by 9-12% on Highland Avenue would not be considered significant would probably be a true assessment for a street with enough w•idth to park cars and have sidewalks. I often walk my dogs up and down Highland. I ha� e to avoid the morning and evening peak times and the peak time when 1Zoy Cloud School lets out for the day. Why--we just have local traffic according to the report. Many parents "cut up" I�ighland going to and from the school. There is � little room to waIk safely so I have to get out of the cars' paths by pulling myself and the dogs into someone's dri� eway--sometimes we have to jog to get to a driver� ay. Specific residentia] traffic issues in the project area would include the following: • Due to the roadways' curvature and foliage, sight distance is limited at certain paints along the local streets, affecring access in/out of residential driveways and side streets." I am ]ucky that I recently retired and don't have to fight my way out of our driveway during peak AM traffic hours, especially when school is in session. The neighbor sh�aight across fram me echoes the same feeIings. And how did the consultants on this traffi�c report decide there would only be 13 trips from the 18 houses during peak AM. Both my husband and I Ieft during peak hours as do my neighbor and his wife and the neighbor and his wife next door. 13 AM peak trips is less than one person per household projected lea��ing at peak AM hours. l7nless these homeowners are projected to have jobs at home? I think that is a gross under estimation. (" The proposed project would be served by a prit•ate cul-de-sac streek The project's 13 AM and 18 PM peak hour trips would not result in significant conflicts with the traffic flows at the Highland/Laurel intersection.") So in summary: if you let the project proceed in the size proposed: it will be much Iess safe for pedestrians Yo enjoy a walk on Highland Avenue and it wil] be e�•en more difficult to back out of our dm•eways to go to work during the AM peak hour.
