To become a massage practitioner, an applicant
must have 250 hours of education from a single approved school and 500 hours of
education from a single approved school to become a massage therapist. CAMTC
maintains a list of "suspect" schools and has clearer authority under the amended law to
deny or revoke certifications. Further details are located on CAMTC's website
( www.camtc.org ) and a copy of its chart showing the pathways to CAMTC certification is
attached hereto.
Permitted Establishments
Redwood City has a total of twenty -two locations where massage services are provided
in its jurisdiction including two pending applications, and these businesses are clustered
in three areas of the City — Woodside Road/El Camino Real, downtown, and the Arch -
Birch area. Thirteen of these locations are day spas or other businesses where
massage services are ancillary, such as massages at the Pacific Athletic Club. The
remaining nine provide only massage services. A map of existing massage
3
