� <br /> ARTICLE 98 <br /> PROBATIONARY PERIOD <br /> 88.1 Objective <br /> The probationary period is an integral part of the examination process and is utilized for closely observing <br /> the employee's work, for securing the most effective adjustment of a new empbyee to his position, and for <br /> rejecting any probationary employee whose performance does not meet required work standards. <br /> 88.2 Duration <br /> All original and promotional appointments made of employees, who are members of the :^�:TCOA <br /> bargaining unit , , shall be subject to a probationary period of si�{6}�eatHs-� <br /> �e-one (1) year. � <br /> 88.3 Extension or Reduction of Probationary Period <br /> Upon written recommendation of the Fire Chief and approval of <br /> the Human Resources Director, a probationary period may be shortened or lengthened by any period of <br /> time up to and including six (6) months. An extension or reduction of the probationary period shall be based <br /> on the employee's performance. <br /> 88.4 RegularAppointment <br /> At the end of the probationary period, if the �e�a�eaF-headFire Chief desires to make a regular <br /> appointrnent of the probationary employee, helshe shall file with the Human Resources Director a written <br /> statement to the effect that the employee's services are satisfactory. If the employee's services are not <br /> satisfactory, the 9e�akmenE-headFire Chief shall file a writlen statement rejecting the probationer, or <br /> requesting an e�ension as defined in Section 88.3. <br /> 88.5 Rejection of Probationer <br /> During the probationary period an employee may be rejected by ais-�e�aR��+eadthe Fire Chief and <br /> terminated by the appointing authority without the right of review of any kind. Any employee rejected during <br /> the probationary period tollowing promotion shall be reinstated to the position from which he/she was <br /> promoted, unless charges are filed and he/she is duly discharged. <br /> 6 <br />
