Mayor Ira noted he had two volunteers who wanted to serve on the Council Rules <br /> of Procedure and Order Ad Hoc Committee. They are Council Member Foust and <br /> Council Member Seybert. Council Member Pierce withdrew her interest to serve but <br /> offered to send her suggestions to the subcommittee for consideration. <br /> 8. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> A. City Council Member Report of Conference/Meeting Attendance <br /> B. City Manager (Oral) Update <br /> Dr. Bell said he is looking for Council Members to serve on the following Ad Hoc <br /> Committees: <br /> -Application and Project Description Review of the Saliworks Project — this <br /> committee will also review the progress and outreach done or needed. Council <br /> Members Gee and Bain volunteered. <br /> -Strategic Initiatives Review and Update- since this began two years ago it is time to <br /> update and revisit the initiatives. Council Members Pierce and Foust volunteered. <br /> -Ad Hoc Committee on the Sign ordinance process — Council Members Bain and <br /> Pierce volunteered. <br /> Dr. Bell then reported on the Economic Development Ad Hoc Committee and its work <br /> with the downtown. He provided details on the two phase approach being used to deal <br /> with vacancies. He added that staff is in the second phase which has a code <br /> enforcement component and this will come to Council later this year. This committee is <br /> also having the second round of stake holders meetings. <br /> Dr. Bell also reported on a community dialogue that was held about shared services that <br /> included various cities from San Mateo County. The goal was to engage community <br /> members on alternative processes and how to redesign the delivery of services. Some <br /> of the main ideas shared included maintaining service levels and shared services. <br /> On the issue of the organizational analysis, he reported that the Department Heads <br /> have met and there are different teams that are working on various clusters and each <br /> one has its own recommendations. He announced that a report is to come back in <br /> January to the City Council. He also reported that the Fall clean-up event was a total <br /> success with over 400 participants. <br /> Mayor Ira then announced that today was Dr. Bell's six year anniversary with the City. <br /> Vice Mayor Aguirre said that Fiestas Patrias was a total success and over 3,000 were <br /> present and staff makes it all happen. She announced various other upcoming events <br /> at Canada College and Redwood Shores. <br /> Council Member Seybert noted that he attended a Redwood City 2020 meeting with <br /> Council Member Pierce and they focused on the collective impact and the importance of <br /> collaboration. <br /> Council Member Foust reported getting multiple compliments from residents about staff <br /> and departments, and these were totally unsolicited. <br /> Council Member Pierce reported on the Fiestas Patrias event and how the Redwood <br /> City Patch and Telemundo covered the event providing exposure to our City.
