Member would like to have some sort of a plan to address this even if there was no
money to handle this right now. The other Council Member said that the other
jurisdictions had recognized that there was a problem and seemed willing to discuss
and seek a joint solution.
Public Comment
Greg Evans, representing Harbor Village and owner of a trailer park, noted that there
were many concerned residents who had been affected by flooding present and they
had provided a booklet (on file) to Council as an attempt to show that pictures could
display a thousand words. He invited Council to reach out to people who had a lot of
abilities and were interested in solutions and in moving forward.
AI Engel, owner of Harbor Village Mobile Home Park, one of five mobile home parks
that adjoin along the bay front, said they had been suffering for over 30 years since they
built 1959 and they were unaware other cities increased water flow into canal. He
expressed concern about raising another wall, increased water going into the canal, and
the tidal gate that keeps high tide from coming in along with major discharge from the
pump station. He opined that development or a second set of pumps could be
beneficial and the provided handout was to provide a visual.
Andy Coe, presenting Stanford Hospital and Stanford Medicine Outpatient Center, said
they had worked with the City and other stakeholders on this issue for about three years
and they had hoped for more progress. He expressed their concerns regarding this
complex issue and said they would continue to work on a viable solution with staff on a
storm by storm basis, and continue to offer community and patient services.
Mayor Ira provided some background on the solutions that had been looked at and how
challenging this really was. He asked staff to provide numbers on the amount of water
that became part of the problem and the size of the canal. Mr. Ekern said that we was
looking for 400 acre feet of storage for water. Mayor Ira provided some history on
Council's prior attempts to resolve this and for him the short answer was finding bay
land to pump this water to. This Council Member said he was seeking a financial and
real commitment from the other agencies and neighbors to make a solution real.
Another Council Member said that this discussion would continue and he was looking
forward to that dialogue. One Council Member thanked all those present for coming out
and sharing their concerns.
8. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST
A.
