(i) No portion of the .Project is located in the .San :Carlos Airport .approach
zone shown in the CLUP.
j The Airport Study evaluates . risk factors ass with air transportatio
injuries., and supports the conclusion that the risk is low. In statistical terms, an
individual is over 100 tines more likely to die from an unintentional injury, or
alm6st 60 times more .l likely to die from injuries sustained in an automobile
Y
accident, than m' ari aviation- related accident. Involvement in a .fatal general
aviation accident is even less likely.
.
3.10a13 Potential E f feet Airspace protection could be adversely affected if buildings on
the Project site exceed loo feet. The heights of the 7, 8 and 1 O sto rY office
buildings could seriously affect the operation of aircraft using the airport.
f
Findings The City .hereby makes fining (1).
Facts in . S u ort of Fi.ndin s
(a), No portion of the Project, including the l o -story office building, would
penetrate the FAR .Part 77 imaginary surfaces for San Carlos .Airport. As such
no Project component should represent either an obstruction or a Hazard to air
navigation as :defined by Part 77 of the Federal Aviation Regulations, because such
criteria "are more restrictive than is ne eded for safe f ight operations."
(b) The Project applicant has filed the required notice under .FAR Part 77, and
will be required by the terms of the Planned Development Permit to meet all
appropriate FAA recommendations.
3.1034 0.14 Potential Effect The Project could represent a.ard to aeriai navi ation if not
g
properly designed. Care must be taken to ensure that visual hazards .(i.e.
distracting lights, glare and smoke), electronic interference with radio
Co ni cations or navigational aids, or other potential hazards (e.g. ponds for
migratory birds) do not occur.
Find yw The City herelby .makes finding (1).
Facts in Support of Findings
(a) With proper design, the Project mill . not create - a hazard. The . Pro' J ect
applicant is aware of these considerations and will design the Project accordingly
-27-
FNDNoP I :Doc
5r30 /96 1 0: 5 AM
