There was no concerted countywide effort DUI arrests were made on an as - time - available <br /> basis. <br /> <br /> AVOID THE 23 proves that the combination of law enforcement collaboration, aggressive street patrol <br /> and sobriety.checkpoints, intense, relentless and effective public education; corarnunity help and <br /> commitment is unbeatable in changing attitudes about driving while under the influence, thus preventing <br /> injuries and saving lives. <br /> <br />I~ROJECT GOALS <br /> <br /> The overall goal o£ the project is to enable San Mateo County law en£orcement agencies to publicize the <br /> combined DUI efforts of all law enforcement agencies in San Mateo County and to raise the awareness <br /> the general public regarding the problems associated with drinldng and driving. <br /> <br />1. To reduce the 2001 base DUI fatal and injury crashes by 10% each holiday enforcement period: <br /> <br /> a) Christmas and New Years from ~6 to 5_5_ during the period of December 14, 2001 to <br /> January 2, 2002, and from 5 to 4 during December 13, 2002 to January 2, 2003; <br /> <br /> b)Memorial Day from 1 to 0 during the period of May 24 to 27, 2002; and maintain <br /> that figure between May 30 to June 2, 2003; <br /> <br /> e) Labor Day from 1 to 0 between August 30 and September 2, 2002, and maintain <br /> that figure between the period o£August 29, through ~eptember 1, ~003. <br /> <br /> OTS-3gb (Rev 10/99) Revised: 10/31/01 <br /> <br /> <br />
