Park & Recreation Commission
Minutes of October 28, 7998
Page 3
the site next to the Police Department was city - owned; the County site is not
accessible and a difficult uphill climb and the Mid - Peninsula Regional Open
Space District will probably not allow any development. Commissioner Swope
felt this is not a "done deal" yet and that City Council needs to make final
decision.
Bret Montague passed out results of a sound test done at the Belmont Dog Park
which indicated there was no impact to residents next to the dog park.
Commissioner Davis suggested chronologically detailing all events that have
occurred to date on this dog park issue. Commissioner Swope felt the
Commission cannot really support the project if the neighbors do not want it.
Commissioner Davis said it would be difficult to put a dog park at Garrett Park
but that he wants to keep working to locate a new site.
Superintendent Hover said he spoke to a neighbor who really did not want the
dog park at Garrett Park, although the site virtually has no neighbors.
Commissioner Joseph asked about other areas considered before and if there
has always been a neighbor issue with each location. Bret Montague noted that
Mountain View Parks Department identified 29 sites, narrowed the list down to 5
potential sites; held public meetings, and finally selected a site. Superintendent
Hover noted that same process was done by the Commission before.
Commissioner Joseph asked Superintendent Hover is staff was going to be
looking at other sites.
- Stafford and Stulsaft Park Fundraising
Hilary Paulson noted the next meeting of the Fundraising group will be held on
November 4 at 7:39pm at the CAB. Funds raised to date: $7,821.99.
- construction of Marlin and Stafford Park Restrooms
The old restrooms at Marlin Park have been removed; Stafford restrooms will
follow very soon.
- Progress of Renovations Plans for Stafford and Stulsaft Parks
Plans are 65% complete; staff is currently reviewing plans for both sites.
- Fields Project Update
A joint task group of City, County and School District representatives are looking
at the renovation of Garfield, Fair Oaks and Taft Schools; Peter Griffiths is the
lead on the Fields Project.
ITEM 5 -- ELECTION OF OFFICERS
MIS Swope/Truscelli: To elect Vic Morton as Chairperson and Don Davis as
Vice Chairperson for the Park & Recreation Commission for
1999.
Motion passed unanimously.
ITEM 5 -- SELECTION OF NOVEMBER MEETING DATE
Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the Commissioners decided to move their
November meeting date to Wednesday, November 18, 1998; meeting time and
location will remain the same.
