Expanded Task 1: Task 1c - Redwood Shores Pipeline Improvements
Consultant shall develop contract documents to seismically-upgrade the large diameter steel
pipe (backbone steel pipe, 16" to 24" diameter) in and near Redwood Shores. The intent of
these modifications is to install additional isolation valves (about 6 locations) and bypass pipes
(at 10 locations), with the intent to be able to sectionalize the pipe network in Redwood Shores
after a large earthquake, and thus be able to restore service as rapidly as possible to as many
customers as possible.
The woric plan below is meant to follow the work as envisioned in the FEMA grant applications.
In other words, the work is tailored to meet the intent of the FEMA grant application, so that the
costs can be approved by FEMA. Should additional work arise during the course of the effort
that is not meant to be funded by FEMA, this work would be addressed under separate
accounts so that Redwood City can readiy assign the suitable costs between FEMA-funded and
non-FEMA funded work.
Required Submittals:
25% Design Submittal
Consultant shall review the locations of all existing Redwood Shores backbone pipe
valve locations. Consultant will use original design drawings for this review. We will
create a map showing these locations, showing the backbone pipes and valve locations.
We will review the available Redwood Shores subsurtace boring information and
geologic conditions to rank the relative hazard and pipeline reliability for the backbone
pipe.
Consultant will then walk down each site with these valves in Redwood Shores, to
examine the ease for construction of new bypass pipes and outlets. We will look for
traffic patterns, availability of nearby sidewalks, cross streets and driveways. We will
then prepare a constructability matrix that ranks the ease of construction, relative
difficulty for traffic during construction, and efficacy of the upgrade location with regards
to improving post-earthquake reliability.
We will prepare a report that summarizes the possible locations for installation of new
valves (up to about 6 locations) and bypass pipes (10 locations). We will meet with
Redwood City to discuss these locations (including a drive through) and select the final
locations for implementation.
50% Design Submittal
We will prepare drawings and specifications for the designs to be implemented of the
type and at the locations agreed to in the 25% submittal.
ATTY/AGR/2014/AMENDMENTS/AMEND N0.1 G&E ENGINEERING
REV:03-21-14 VR
